VW’s electric range continues to expand. The German brand has in fact announced the opening of presales for Volkswagen ID.5, the first electric coupe SUV of the ID family that will always be born on the platform modular MEB. At the moment there is no information on prices regarding the Italian market with ID.5 that will be available in Germany from a base price of € 46,515.
“Our stylish e-SUV coupe already offers customers the new ID.Software 3.0. In concrete terms, this means that improved charging capacity and voice control ensure a high level of comfort for the user “, said Klaus Zellmer, member of the board of directors of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand with responsibility for sales, marketing and after-sales service. “The latest generation assistance systems demonstrate Volkswagen’s software expertise: here we are taking the next step towards automated driving as part of the ACCELERATE strategy ”. They will be available at launch three versions: Volkswagen ID.5 Pro and ID.5 Pro Performance equipped with a 128 kW (174 hp) and 150 kW (204 hp) engine respectively, to which will be added the high-performance variant with all-wheel drive ID.5 GTX with powertrain 220 kW (299 hp) 05. All the proposed versions will have a 77 kWh battery, with its central position under the passenger compartment that guarantees a low center of gravity and a balanced distribution of the load on the axles. Autonomy is 520 km (in the WLTP cycle) with a maximum charging power of up to 135 kW. The ID.5 GTX version has a range of up to 490 km. Thanks to the peak charging power of up to 150 kW07, it is possible to recover 100 kilometers in just 6 minutes in fast charging stations.
Over the air updates ensure that the ID.5 always stays up to date. Complete driver assistance systems with new functions are included in the Travel Assist. This improves driving comfort thanks to the interaction between ACC and Lane Assist, combined with navigation data and cloud data transmitted from other vehicles. Parking is even easier, thanks to the Park Assist Plus with memory function (optional). Despite its coupé shape, the ID.5 has only 12mm less space in the rear than the Volkswagen ID.4. The long wheelbase of 2,766 mm allows interior space conditions comparable to those of higher segment SUVs. The trunk volume is 549 liters, while the materials and workmanship of the vehicle are of high quality.
“The ID.5 offers the best combination of premium standards with elegance and sustainability”, said Klaus Zellmer. “Our first all-electric coupe SUV offers zero-carbon local mobility and sporty performance for a discerning clientele. Our goal is to make Volkswagen the most desirable volume brand for sustainable mobility. ID.5 is a crucial milestone and a big step forward on our path to ZERO. The streamlined structure of the range makes it easy to order the ID.5. Customers first decide which engine and appearance they want; this is then followed by a clearly organized selection of packages. They can choose from optional design, infotainment, assistance, comfort and sports packages, all available in basic and “plus” variants. With We Charge, Volkswagen offers the perfect charging solution anywhere and around the clock. The ID.5 models can be charged with an output of up to 11 kW via an AC charging station or wall box. On the road, the ID.5 models with We Charge benefit from a fast-growing, fastest-growing charging ecosystem that already includes around 250,000 charging points across Europe.
