Transforming a concept car into a production car is never child’s play. Volkswagen also knows this well, having worked arduously to make the prototype into a prototype ID.2all, designed in just six weeks, into a production-ready low-cost electric car. Yet the German giant has succeeded, and it seems also with excellent results: this at least is what was claimed by the chief designer Andreas Mindt, who spoke of a series version of the model even even better of the reference concept.
Volkswagen ID.2, the timing
We remind you that the new Volkswagen ID.2 will be presented for the first time within the end of the yearwith sales starting early next year at prices less than 25,000 euros. Aesthetically, the production model will closely follow the style and dimensions of the ID.2all concept: at Volkswagen the atmosphere is one of great optimism regarding the completion of the project.
Expanding range
Partial completion, given that the range will not be completed immediately: in fact, a new one should also be introduced in 2026. GTI variant of the model, and the debut of a high-end crossover known as the ID 2X expected for 2025. Returning to the standard ID.2, in terms of autonomy we are talking about approx 450 kilometers of travel range with a single charge, a figure made possible by the presence of a 56 kWh battery (a 38 kWh battery should also be available, clearly with reduced autonomy).
Charging and performance
Charging and performance chapter: it will be possible to go from 10 to 80% in about 20 minutes and enjoy a maximum charging speed of 125 kW, the top speed should be 160 km/h with a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h that can be consumed in less than 7 seconds. In rangethe new ID.2 will be placed below the ID.3, while speaking of features, Volkswagen itself has defined it as spacious like a Golf and economical like a Polo.
