The most powerful Golf GTI ever. Volkswagen has chosen the Nurburgring as the stage for the debut of the new GTI Cluubsport, an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic models of the Wolfsburg brand. In fact, compared to the standard GT there are several distinctive elements which do not stop at the mere increase in power already anticipated.
Design
From a stylistic point of view, on the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport there are specific finishes in glossy black that contrast with the bodywork, with enlarged and arrow-shaped front wings. The front light clusters are Matrix IQ.Light LEDs while at the rear we find 3D LEDs with dynamic function and greeting and welcome sequences that can be customized via the multimedia system. Also at the rear we find the larger spoiler finished in glossy black with a specific hole to best convey the aerodynamic flows. Moving further down there is the sports exhaust with two single terminals with the possibility of choosing the race package and consequently the Akrapovic sports system. On the bodywork there are also specific badges with the possibility of choosing between 18 or 19 inch wheels with dedicated designs: in addition to the traditional Queenstown ones there are in fact the Warmenau, a name that indicates the headquarters of VW’s high performance division and which are forged , thus allowing the weight to be reduced to 8 kg each.
Engine of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport
Under the skin we find the same engine as the standard GTI, the turbocharged EVO4 four-cylinder TSI petrol engine with direct injection at 350 bar, squeezed up to 300 HP and 400 Nm of torque, with front-wheel drive. Then there is also the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The performances speak of a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 250 km/h which can be increased to 267 km/h thanks to the Race package. The Wolfsburg technicians then worked to improve the progressive steering thanks also to the contribution of former Bugatti test driver Sven Bohnhorst, thus refining the electronically regulated front self-locking differential for even more engaging driving dynamics. On the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport we find the Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual driving modes, with the possibility of also having DCC, the active Dynamic Chassis Control regulation, available.
Interior and price
The interior of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport has specific elements such as the checked texture of the seats or the golf ball on the gear knob as well as a button that “pulses” to turn on once the doors are opened. The interior can be customized with ambient lights. VW then brings the ArtVelours material on board, a covering present on the doors and seats but carbon and leather are also always in the range as options. At the center of the dashboard stands the 12.9” infotainment system display while musical entertainment can be entrusted to the optional 480 Watt Harman Kardon Sound System 2. The price of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubusport has not yet been disclosed but considering the price list of the GTI, the cost for Italy could exceed 50,000 euros.
