At the age of 14, the all-rounder celebrated his breakthrough in the well-known anti-war film “Die Brücke” by director Bernhard Wicki.
Lechtebrink has received numerous prizes for his work, most recently this year he received the renowned Gustav Gründgens Prize at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg. Lechtenbrink worked regularly at the theater, among other things he was its director from 2003 to 2006. Born in 1944 in the East Prussian town of Cranz – today Selenogradsk in Russia – he was already known as a teenager for his role in the anti-war film “Die Brücke” from 1959.
He later worked as an actor in theaters all over Germany, with a focus of his work until recently in Hamburg. From 1969 to 1983 he worked at the theater in the Hanseatic city, where he also directed. He also worked at the St. Pauli Theater and the Hamburger Kammerspiele.
Volker Lechtenbrink: Most recently appreciated as an audio book and voice actor
Most recently, he was seen in productions at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg, to which he had been closely associated for a long time. He was also on tour in Germany and played in the Berlin Theater on Kurfürstendamm.
Lechtenbrink has been on television since 1962, he played in various series from “Derrick” to “Tatort” to “Großstadtrevier”. There were also appearances in the film adaptations of the “Rosamunde Pilcher” or “Inga Lindström” series.
Lechtenbrink also made a name for himself as an audio book and voice actor. He was the German voice of the US actor Burt Reynolds, and in 2008 he received the German Audio Book Prize as best interpreter for his reading version of the novel “Die Brücke”. (AFP / dpa / frs)
