The newly re-elected Russian president Vladimir Putin asked for the creation of one gaming console snores at his men. The reason is not his secret passion for video games, but the fact that with the sanctions due to the war in Ukraine, he has decided that Russia must equip itself with more home-made technologies, so as to compensate for the closing of international taps. A bit like what happened during the Cold War, when Russia developed its own video game industry.
The request made by Putin to his government is to soon have fixed and portable consoles, accompanied by unique operating systems and cloud gaming systems.

Putin's order came from a meeting he had in Kaliningrad regarding the country's future. The government will have until 15 June 2024 to produce an action plan. The project was supervised by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The objective is not at all simple, considering that Russia will have to start from scratch. According to the local newspaper Kommersant, it will take between 5 and 10 years to create an acceptable ecosystem, which however will still be 15 years behind those in the West. Obtaining the necessary means will also not be easy, so the help of the China to succeed in the business.
Last month, Russia's Organization for Developing the Video Game Industry (RVI) presented a plan on how to encourage the development of video games in the country, a plan that includes re-establishing relationships with international organizations and financiers. According to RVI, the Russian console could be released in 2026-2027. The timing seems really optimistic to us, considering the start from scratch.
