Life of Pi: plot, cast and streaming of the film
Tonight, Wednesday 29 December 2021, at 9.20 pm on Rai 3, Vita di Pi, a 2012 film directed by Ang Lee, will be broadcast. The film is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Yann Martel. But let’s see all the information together in detail.
Plot
The whole story is told from the point of view of Pi as an adult, to whom a writer turns in search of creative ideas and potentially interested in drawing a book from his story. Thus begins the long flashback which lasts almost the entire film. Piscine Molitor Patel, aka Pi, is a 17 year old Indian who lives in Pondicherry, in the French part of India, with his father, mother and older brother Ravi. Pi was born in a zoo, created in an old botanical garden owned by his father, which is home to numerous animals, among which the “highlight” is a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. In reality, the tiger should have been called “Thirsty” (thirsty), but due to a transcription error it was given the name of the hunter who had captured it. The film explains the origin of the boy’s curious name: his father’s closest friend, an experienced swimmer and considered to be an uncle by the boy, had suggested calling the boy with the same name of a famous public swimming pool in Paris, the Molitor pools, in his opinion the best pool of the many in which he swam: Piscine, once he grows up, decides to shorten his name to Pi, to avoid the distortions with which his schoolmates never stop mocking him. Pi is a sensitive boy and he questions deeply about religions, coming to follow three at the same time, but his father, a rational and scientific man, declares that following many religions is equivalent to following none, inviting his son to rely first of all on his rationality.
