Vaccine for children, final green light from Aifa: “It’s safe”
The Coronavirus vaccine for children also becomes reality in Italy. The Aifa has given its ok to the administrations for the age range 5-11. “No warning signal”. A reduced dose is expected, one third compared to that for adults, with two injections three weeks apart and possibly – we read in the Corriere della Sera – “adopting reserved vaccination courses, appropriate to the age. The available data – is written in the Aifa note – demonstrate a high level of effectiveness and there are currently no warning signs in terms of safety“That is, the vaccine protects against infection and the worst effects of the disease, as for adults.
“The registration study of the vaccine – continues the Aifa note – in the population between 5 and 11 years old has shown efficacy in 90.7% reduction in symptomatic Covid infections compared to placebo and the non-inferiority of the immunological response compared to that observed in the 16-25 year old population “. Undersecretary of Health, Andrea Costa, assures:”It will be a voluntary choice: no Green Pass will be provided for under 12s. But we must clearly say that a vaccine offers a benefit above all to those who receive it ».
