A.At Frankfurt Airport, travelers from so-called Corona high-risk areas will be more closely controlled in the future. The federal police announced on Saturday evening. The tightened controls should start on Sunday, said a spokesman. 32 countries are affected, including Egypt, Israel, the United States, Portugal, Spain and Germany’s neighbor the Czech Republic. The full list is available on the website of the Robert Koch Institute retrievable.
As the spokesman for the Federal Police also announced, above all the necessary entry requirements are being consistently checked. This included, in particular, checking digital and manual entry registrations as well as proof of a current negative corona test. The checks take place before the actual border control and are carried out directly on the aircraft upon arrival. As the “Spiegel” reports, the Federal Police also mobilized significantly more officers at Munich Airport.
The measures would be carried out “in close coordination with the health authorities, the Hessian state police as well as the airport operator Fraport and the airlines concerned”. According to the spokesman, 17 flights from five countries are expected to be affected on Sunday.
The aim of the tightened controls is to further prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to identify people “who must be immediately put into quarantine,” the spokesman said. It was only on Friday that it became known that a mutation of the virus was brought to Germany by air from a traveler from Hesse who was in Brazil. It was the first time that the Brazilian virus variant was detected in Germany.
In view of the current situation, the Federal Police recommends that you generally refrain from traveling or “only travel for valid reasons”.
