The number of new cases of coronavirus infection in Moscow during the outbreak of omicron could rise to 50 thousand people per day. This opinion was shared by Petr Chumakov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor and virologist, in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
On Thursday, January 20, the headquarters for combating coronavirus infections reported that the number of detected cases of coronavirus in the capital over the past day was 11,557, which is an absolute record since the beginning of the pandemic. Compared with the previous day, the number of new infections increased by almost three thousand.
My intuitive estimate is that we can see numbers in Moscow up to 50 thousand infected per day

At the same time, the specialist noted that such an outbreak in the capital is unlikely to last long. He expects the omicron wave to last no more than a month in Moscow, and peak values will decline by mid-February.
The total number of cases in the capital amounted to 2,124,927 people. In 24 hours, 70 people died in Moscow, 2307 citizens were discharged from hospitals after undergoing treatment for coronavirus. Over the past day, 38,850 new cases of infection have been detected across the country. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic has reached 10,938,261.
