Even in the presence of antibodies, a person can get sick with a new strain of coronavirus, said virologist, professor at the Gamaleya Center Anatoly Altshtein.
However, according to the specialist, the disease is easier and the mortality rate decreases in the presence of antibodies.
“A similar picture can be seen in the UK. There are studies that the set of antibodies in those who have been ill and vaccinated may differ. There is a theory, which has not yet been confirmed, that if a person first had a coronavirus and then was vaccinated, then his immunity becomes stronger, and his antibodies are more diverse, ”Altshtein said in an interview with Izvestia.
Earlier, Altstein said that it was not yet possible to name the level of antibodies necessary to protect against coronavirus. According to him, it is now known for certain that antibodies are an indicator that a person has either been ill with a coronavirus or has been vaccinated. However, it is very important to count the vaccinated and sick, as the total number and laboratory tests can give a more or less clear picture of the desired level of antibodies.
On February 8, the Russian Ministry of Health published an order according to which citizens from February 21 will be able to receive a certificate if they have antibodies to the coronavirus. The document should contain information about the method and date of the study, as well as the organization that conducted it. It will be formed no later than three calendar days from the date of application on the public services portal, provided that the resource has information about the results of the test for antibodies to coronavirus.
The press service of the Ministry of Health added that the validity of certificates of the presence of antibodies to coronavirus will be six months from the date of receipt of the test results. In this case, the re-issuance of this document is not provided.
A large-scale vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Citizens can get vaccinated for free. Six coronavirus drugs have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, KoviVac, EpiVacCorona N, and the Sputnik M vaccine for adolescents.
