Virologist Chepurnov said that the coronavirus pandemic could fade by summer
The coronavirus will continue to circulate, but it may die out by summer. Such a period in a conversation with Lenta.ru was named by the head of the laboratory of especially dangerous infections of the Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (FRC FTM), Professor of Virology Alexander Chepurnov.
“The virus will certainly circulate, and people will get sick with it, but it will not be of such a massive nature, I believe, and the severity will be much lower, so the load on medical institutions will significantly decrease and the losses will be less,” he said.

Chepurnov noted that such a scenario is possible if the virus “does not come up with something out of the ordinary.” To date, the vast majority of the population has been ill with the coronavirus or been vaccinated against it, so in the future people will be easier to tolerate the disease and there will be no more massive infections, the specialist noted.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the incidence of coronavirus last week grew only in five regions of Russia, its rate decreased by 29.6 percent. In the structure of morbidity, 7.9 percent of cases occur in Moscow – 2.6 percent, St. Petersburg – 4 percent and the Moscow region – 1.3 percent.
