A photo from a Berlin bus goes around the world again and again. Many mistakenly celebrate the man who can be seen. Guess why?
- A photo from a bus in Berlin went viral among music fans years ago. It pops up again and again on Facebook & Co.
- It shows a man reading music.
- The person photographed once spoke up himself – and clarified.
Berlin – A photo from a Berlin bus keeps haunting the web. It’s not just the image itself that creates so much excitement. But the text that someone put on it. “Headphones are so overrated”. A post from November 2021 went viral again (more than 4,500 likes and more than 900 shares). The meme experts at Dressed Like Machines had already picked it up in 2021. There are other more recent social media postings with hundreds of likes. The picture is several years old!
The supposedly unnoticed photo shows a gentleman sitting in a bus and leisurely browsing through a notebook with sheet music. All in all, that means: The man is so cool, he doesn’t need headphones, he just looks at the notes and the tones ring out in his head.
Picture from the Berlin bus: The person photographed clarified everything
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Because the resolution could disappoint some and shakes the hero status of the bus passenger. He himself once spoke up in the Facebook group “Specialist Group: Musicians’ Jokes”. Accordingly, his name is Igor G. – that it is actually the photographed person is not one hundred percent confirmed, but there is also no reason to doubt it.
“But I only read the lyrics (dumb German: the lyrics)”, was his sobering explanation. “They were songs by Friedrich Hollaender that I got from the music library in Berlin-Steglitz.”
The photo literally went around the world. Because Igor G. had also discovered the picture with a different typeface on it. With probably Cyrillic! “By the way, this is the oldest post of this that I could locate. Unfortunately, like sheet music, I can’t read that,” he wrote. And got help. “It says ‘Nauschniki dlja slabakow’, in English: ‘Headphones [sind was] for wimps’, according to the Enlightenment. Another Internet photo with a Cyrillic comment was also discussed.
“Bus hero” from Berlin admits: “I’m not a musician”
Some people don’t find the picture all that special. After all, there are actually musically talented and trained people who can convert notes into tones in their heads. Igor G. made it clear: “I’m not a musician. I played the trumpet for a while and was able to read the notes. Even got a medal in music school for the best grade in music theory. (Should it ever find itself in my tohuwabohu, I will take a picture of it and reveal it here to the general mockery). But what I can’t do is hear a melody from the notes I’ve read.”
“Bus hero” from Berlin would not have reckoned with his fame
Igor G. was puzzled by all the fuss that the photo sparked. “I was very surprised to discover a picture of myself on the internet,” explains the person who was photographed, who became a hero against his will. And who was credited with a superpower that he doesn’t even have. This message from a DHL messenger is no less honest. (lin)
