The controversial final of the season in Abu Dhabi continues to be discussed. Although the engines on the track have now been off for a month, the controversy over Michael Masi’s chaotic management of the safety car in the final laps of the race shows no sign of abating.
Just a few days ago the FIA issued a statement relating to the analysis of the facts in Abu Dhabi, and the new president Ben Sulayem wants drivers and teams to be consulted to understand how to improve the management of the safety car.
Who knows about the world championships won in the last race is undoubtedly Jacques Villeneuve. The son of the legendary Gilles dealt a deadly blow to the Ferrari team’s hopes in 1997 in the now famous clash at Jerez with Michael Schumacher.
Jacques has recently returned to talk about his desire to try to qualify for the Daytona 500, and during the tests the Canadian also expressed himself on what happened between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at Yas Marina.
“I think it’s good for the sport because Lewis now has to come back and try to take the eighth title, and he knows he’ll have to be aggressive to do it.”
“I’ve been reading a lot of news in the newspapers lately. It was a controversial event, but it always happens when you play everything in the last match “.

After the disappointment of what happened in Abu Dhabi, Lewis Hamilton has literally disappeared from social networks. His profiles are still active, but since mid-December the seven-time world champion hasn’t published anything anymore. Furthermore, Lewis did not show up at the FIA Prize Gala at the end of the season, thus angering the new president Ben Sulayem.
Now many are wondering if Hamilton will be regularly at the start of the 2022 championship, and Toto Wolff himself was unable to confirm by admitting that his driver is: “definitely disillusioned at the moment”.
Even Villeneuve did not want to unbalance on a hypothetical retirement from racing for the seven-time world champion.
“Well, who knows? Nobody would have expected Rosberg to suddenly decide to hang up his helmet, but one morning he woke up and told everyone that he was no longer in love with racing ”.
“This doesn’t seem to be the case with Lewis, but who knows? It is really difficult to try to understand what happens in people’s heads when they play such a long season. You think you know how it will turn out and then you feel that that result has been ripped away from you ”.
“I can understand the disappointment, but you just have to try to start again”.
Villeneuve then underlined that Max Verstappen did not steal anything and admitted that he was the most deserving driver to win the title.
“It’s been an exciting season and seeing how the whole championship went I think Max really deserved this title. Race after race he has always been at the top of the standings ”.
