Lamborghini Countach LP 500 at the Concorso d’Eleganza of Villa d’Este 2021
Among the models that most characterized this edition of the Villa d’Este Competition there is certainly the Lamborghini Countach LP 500. The concept which is a reconstruction of the legendary model from 1971, carried out by the Polo Storico of Automobili Lamborghini, which required over 25,000 hours of work on behalf of an important collector.
In March 1971, at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini presented its “idea car”, the LP 500 Countach, heir to the legendary Miura. After three years of development, the LP 500 was sacrificed in the crash tests in March 1974 and then disappeared.
At the end of 2017 an important Lamborghini customer, vintage car enthusiast, asked the Polo Storico if there was the possibility of creating one reconstruction of the Countach LP 500, a legendary model known only thanks to the photos of the time. The car was rebuilt in every single detail, also thanks to the support of the Pirelli Foundation in making available the historical material preserved in their archives to recreate the tires that were mounted on the original model of the LP 500.
The works started from telboxed aio with mixed structure, completely different from that tubular of the Countachs that will follow. In addition to physically redesigning it, the Polo Storico had to decide with which working system to build it, to respect the production methods of the time.
Same procedure for the bodywork, for whose analysis and definition various modern technological tools have been used. Having reached the sheet metal beating phase, technology has given way to the traditional Italian system, with the panel beater, his art and his tools. A similar process was also followed for the interior, which includes the light diagnostic instrumentation, as shown on the 1971 prototype.
For all mechanical components were used original spare parts Lamborghini or components of the time restored or, failing that, complete reconstruction.
For the historical reconstruction part of the original design, the Polo Storico turned to Lamborghini Style Center, starting from the publications of the time, from images on homologation sheets and from other material recovered from the Polo Storico. For the choice of color, the Yellow Fly Special, referring to the archives of the PPG.

The most expensive car in the world at Villa d’Este
The most expensive car in the world, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, from 23 million euros, inspired by the 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Boattail Tourer. A little car and a little boat, it was built on commission by a wealthy client, who wanted to remain anonymous.
The tail inspired by the nautical world jumps to the eye, reminiscent of the deck of a ship and “hides” a fridge designed for the cool storage of bottles of champagne.
