With several substitutes coming on, Real Madrid’s performance dropped and the visitors took advantage with Carlos Protesoni as their standard-bearer: the Uruguayan scored a great goal to reduce the deficit and assisted Kike García to sow suspense at the Santiago Bernabéu.
With the spaces closed, Carlos Protesoni did what the play called for: try a shot from outside the area. The Uruguayan fired a powerful, cornered shot into the bottom right corner of Thibaut Courtois’ goal, who could do little about it.
Protesoni himself was responsible for making an excellent lobbed pass that found Kike García open on the left flank of the Real Madrid area. The striker controlled and defined strongly and crossed for the 3-2 in the Spanish capital.
With this victory, Real Madrid has 17 points and is one point behind the leader, Barcelona, with one game less. Athletic Club is third with 13 and Atlético Madrid completes the qualifying spots for the next Champions League with 12. Meanwhile, Alavés is eighth with 10, outside the European spots.
