The locomotive ‘The Empress’ arrived in Mexico to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), the railway company that has a line throughout North America. However, the commemoration had a tragic event: the death of a young woman who was looking to take a selfie.
For the anniversary, the company launched its train 2816, manufactured in 1930 and known as ‘The Empress’. The steam engine began its journey on April 24 in Calgary, Canada, bound for Mexico City, passing through multiple towns.

The victim was identified as Dulce Alondra García, 28 years old. She graduated in business management engineering from the Higher Technological Institute of Huichapan, an entity that mourned her death: “Rest in peace and resignation to her family.”
Likewise, the Government of Huichapan, where she was from, joined in the condolences. “We raise a prayer for her eternal rest, so that her family finds comfort and strength,” she said.
Railway company remembers recommendations to see ‘The Empress’
The CPKC of Mexico described the death of Dulce Alondra as a “tragic incident”: “We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express

The company assured in a statement that it is collaborating with the authorities in charge of investigating the case.
