AT the interior of the majestic building located heart from Washington, the federal capital of the United States, a man, wearing a horned Viking helmet, shirtless, American flag painted on his face. On his chest, a tattoo of intertwined triangles is also the emblem of a neo-Nazi movement.

This is Jake Angeli, a figure of QAnon, conspiracy movement. “These people are inhabited by the certainty that America is to be saved from a very serious danger which is not only the victory of Biden, but of satanist pedophiles, of the deep state which wants to monopolize power and deprive the American people of it “, Explain Thomas Snégaroff, journalist specializing in the United States.
The flags make it possible to better identify the demonstrators, very often of the extreme right. Some brandish a yellow flag for patriotism and the right to arms. Others fly the Confederate flag, a symbol of white supremacy and slavery. Activists came to defend “the right of heterosexuals”.
They all have one thing in common: they do not accept the defeat of Donald Trump. Most of the protesters are anti-media, some have destroyed journalists’ equipment. “America wakes up stunned with a lot of questions (…) we hear Republicans, Democrats and Trumpists calling it infamy”, explains Agnès Vahramian live of Washington. “This is a physical assault on democracy.”
