Have you already dealt with the disappointment of the lack of the eight-cylinder? Is not necessary. Small consolation: the 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S, together with an electric motor, produces 680 hp and 1,020 Nm. Humming the C-class still does, as you can hear in the video below. Welcome to the era where the C 63 S has as much horsepower as a Ferrari Enzo.
Emissions are at least as important in the times in which we live. The hybrid four-cylinder is a lot less thirsty than the V8. What is special is that the four-cylinder produces 476 hp, which is not much less than the 510 hp from the 6.2-liter V8 from the past (not the previous generation). The sound of that atmospheric V8 will never be surpassed.
AMG CEO Jochen Hermann is kind enough to drive us around in the new C 63 S. He says that this four-cylinder is the absolute limit of what a four-cylinder can do. AMG says the new C-Class goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h.
The sound that comes from the exhausts – which are hidden behind four fake exhausts – can be called quite tender. Although the four-cylinder also gets some help here, this time from the speakers. Listen below from a minute or eleven.
