A video shows the moment when three friends hug each other as the flood waters surround them, moments before being swept away by the current in northern Italy.
The two women and one man, all in their 20s, were identified as Patrizia Cormos, 20, Bianca Doros, 23, and Cristian Molnar, 25.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, May 31, on the Natisone River, near the commune of Udine, amid sudden flooding caused by heavy rains in the region.
Rescue teams, including firefighters, drones, boats and divers, launched an intense search operation. The bodies of Cormos and Doros were found on Sunday about a kilometer from where they were last seen. The search for Molnar still continues.
“The main element is not so much the rain, but the force of the river and the very strong currents. There are gorges, there are ebbs of water and, even for experts, it is a particularly dangerous task,” he added.

Patrizia Cormos, 20, was a student at the Udine Academy of Fine Arts.
Bianca Doros, 23, was originally from Romania and was studying economics in Bucharest. She was visiting Udine to see her parents. Cristian Molnar, 25, was also Romanian and had traveled from Austria to meet Doros.
Speaking to the ‘Corriere della Sera’, Cormos’ mother stated that she had told her daughter not to go out because she was tired. The young woman, however, stated that she would only go out “for a little while” to “take some photos.”
