A video circulating on social media shows car stores flooded in Porto Alegre (RS). Rio Grande do Sul is facing floods that have already left 107 people dead. The number of homeless people in the State more than doubled in 24 hours, from more than 163 thousand on Wednesday (May 8, 2024) to 327,105 on Thursday (May 9).
Images of Porto Alegre show parts of the city under water. It is possible to see car stores from brands such as Porsche, BYD, Fiat, Peugeot, Mitsubishi and Jeep. Furthermore, the dealership Savarautowhich sells cars like those from Mercedez-Benz.

The municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul have already incurred more than R$7.6 billion in losses due to the heavy rains that have hit the region since April 28th. The data are from the balance sheet released by CNM (National Confederation of Municipalities) on Thursday (May 9).
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), said on Thursday (May 9) that at least R$19 billion will be needed to rebuild the State’s infrastructure.
