The Algerian Federation attributed its decision to hold the 28th and 29th rounds of the first professional league championship without an audience, to what it described as an expression of “the football community’s rejection of the growing phenomenon of violence in stadiums.”
The federation said in a statement that it “regrets and denounces the acts of violence and vandalism that occurred at Mustafa Hamalaoui Stadium in Constantine during the Constantine Sports Club match against USM Alger.”
The statement added: “These unacceptable and condemnable actions that distort the image of our sport cannot be tolerated, and it has become necessary to combat this scourge forcefully and prevent the unruly elements who are accustomed to harming football.”
According to the statement, the Emergency Committee of the Algerian Federation decided the following decisions:
The next two rounds (28 and 29) of the First Professional League Championship will be held without an audience for all matches.
– Banning the movement of fans during Round 30.
– Referring the case to the Disciplinary Committee to address these serious violations with the greatest rigor and firmness and impose the necessary penalties.
– Opening an investigation into the circumstances of organizing and conducting this match.
The statement stressed that “the Algerian Football Federation is committed to taking all necessary measures to eliminate this phenomenon and to ensure that stadiums remain a safe environment and an arena for mutual respect.”
This decision comes in the wake of riots and violence that accompanied the match between CS Constantine and USMA on Monday evening, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
