The best basis for a fast SUV? We would then grab something that has at least seen the inside of a wind tunnel. And certainly not a car with the aerodynamics of a brick wall. Fortunately, not everyone is like us and that’s why you can now look at a Nissan Patrol with more than 2,700 hp.
The engine is still the 4.8-liter in-line six with which the Nissan Patrol was once delivered new. Of course, it has been thoroughly revised and the owner attached two big turbos to the six-cylinder. The new power is now more than 2,700 hp. The Patrol thus achieves a speed of at least 355 km/h. We are curious to see what the car can do on a track like Ehra-Lessien, where Bugatti drove just under 500.
That the car with 2,000 hp more than the fastest production SUV, the Aston Martin DBX707, only goes about 50 km/h faster, is a nice lesson in physics. Such a Nissan Patrol does not exactly glide through the air like an eel and the air resistance increases quadratic, as you know. That 355 km/h is not necessarily the top speed of the car; there is probably a bit more in it on longer stretches than 800 meters (half a mile).
