Colombian footballer Leicy Santos left Atlético de Madrid after five seasons and signed for Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). And in her first appearances she has stood out.

This Saturday, the Lorica (Córdoba) native scored, in the sixth minute of added time, the winning goal for her team against the Portland Thorns, connecting with a cross from Trinity Rodman, player for the US national team, winner of the gold medal in women’s soccer in Paris 2024 and who is also the daughter of Dennis Rodman, the historic basketball player who was part of the Chicago Bulls.

The 2-1 victory left Washington Spirit in second place in the standings with 41 points, three behind leaders Orlando Pride.

This week, Washington Spirit announced Johnson’s arrival as a minority partner, expanding the former basketball player’s portfolio in the sport.

Magic also invests in franchises such as the NFL’s Washington Commanders, Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers, the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks and MLS’s Los Angeles FC.

The club has been controlled for two years by businesswoman Michelle Kang, who paid $35 million at the time. Today, the franchise is valued at $54 million.

“Magic’s arrival not only reflects the strength of our club, players, fans and brand, but also sends a powerful message about the growth and impact of women’s sports globally,” Kang said.

Johnson himself dedicated some words of encouragement to his team on his social networks.

“I had a blast at my first Washington Spirit game! Our fan base is amazing and we want to thank our amazing players for getting us an exciting 2-1 win over Portland!” she wrote on X.
