A capuchin monkey armed himself with a kitchen knife and frightened the inhabitants of Corrente, in the department of Piauí. He entered an empty lot in a shopping center in the city and from there he went out to nearby houses and stole food from the residents of the sector.
In a video, an instant was recorded in which the monkey, whom they baptized as Chico, seemed to be sharpening the knife that he was carrying with the stones of a wall.
Local media shared the curious moment in which the little primate hit some of the roofs of nearby houses with the knife.
For at least a week it was wreaking havoc in Corrente. Some people chose to lock themselves in their homes and avoid being insulted by Chico, while others took the situation with grace and laughed at the event.

Several members of the community alerted the environmental authorities, but not before the macaque will manage to take clothes, cookies and full boxes of soap powder from various homes to the place where he slept inside the mall.
Thanks to the complaints of the neighbors, the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (Icmbio), went to the area and managed to capture the capuchin monkey, which since then has been together with ten other primates of its species.

From Icmbio they seek to rehabilitate him so that he does not maintain violent behaviors that he acquired while living in unknown environments. For this reason, was transferred to the Zoobotanical Biopark, an animal shelter, to ensure that he was in good health.
Biologist Vanessa Gomes, from the Zoobotanical Biopark, explained to the Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’ that capuchin monkeys are very sociable: “Right now we are observing their diet and relationship with others of their species so that they can recover their instincts to live in herd”.

The veterinarian of the same shelter, Fernando Barbosa, pointed out that it is important to stop selling and keeping capuchin monkeys as pets, since they should not be in captivity.. “It is an environmental crime to sell and lock up these animals”pointed out the expert.
