Video: A small apartment building burns to the ground in Tampere – a huge fire broke out in several places at the same time

Firefighter on duty Jarkko Pietiläinen says that the fire is very fierce and the rescue service has so far mostly tried to contain it and prevent the fire from spreading. 13 units were called to the scene, some of which are extinguishing units. Among other things, there are six tank trucks.

– The house will definitely burn to the ground, Pietiläinen commented.

The fire marshal according to the house is an empty, two-story apartment building with four stairwells. Some of the corresponding buildings are conservation sites and some are under threat of demolition. According to the fire chief, no one was known to be inside when the fire broke out.

– We haven’t been able to examine the premises because the fire has been so fierce. The big assumption is that no people have been exposed to the fire, he says.

The rescue service has received a few smoke observations due to the fire. However, according to the fire chief, there has been no immediate danger from the smoke. The Pirkanmaa rescue service says that smoke from the building fire is spreading southwest and south. The smell of smoke can be felt in nearby areas, such as Kaleva, Järvensivu and Viinika.

Extinguishing works at the fire place continue until the morning. The fire marshal says that excavators are expected at the site, which will demolish the structures before the final extinguishing can be done.

According to Pietiläinen, the cause of the fire is still unknown.

– It is suspected that the fire was set on purpose. In the beginning, there were pieces in several places, so that already reflects the fact that there might be something suggestive of intentionality. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
