The main indicators of the gender violence They remained stable during the second quarter of 2024, in figures similar to those of a year ago, according to the quarterly report released this Wednesday, October 16, by the Observatory of Domestic and Gender Violence of the Judiciary (CGPJ). The number of complaints filed in court of violence against women increased by 4.79%, but the number of victims fell by 1.44%. The number of protection orders requested was very similar to that of the second quarter of 2023, as 12,674 were requested, just 0.7% less.
According to CGPJ data, between April and June There were a total of 46,135 female victims in Spain and 50,536 complaints were filed. The study shows a year-on-year decrease of 3.6% in the number of protection orders granted by the courts of violence against women and by the courts acting as guard; Regarding the sentences handed down, there were 16,962, 10.1% more than a year ago; and, of them, 80.27% were condemnatory.
During the second quarter of 2024, violence against women courts throughout Spain received a total of 50,536 complaints, 4.79% more than in the same period of the previous year, in which 48,227 were registered. Women victims of sexist violence were 46,135, 1.44% less than a year ago, when 46,808 were counted.
For another quarter, two out of every three victims (62.82%) have Spanish nationality, while the remaining 37.18% come from other countries. The number of minor victims under guardianship rose to 141, a figure 3.6% more than that registered in the same quarter of 2023 (136).
The rate of victims of gender violence per 10,000 women decreased compared to the second quarter of 2023, with the national average standing at 18.5 compared to the average of 19.2 a year ago.

Protective orders
Two out of every three women (6,738, 63.5%) who requested protection were Spanish and 248, 2.3% of the total, including Spanish and foreign women, were minors.
The judicial bodies also agreed, derived from the protection orders and other precautionary measures, a total of 16,566 criminal judicial measures to protect victims (women and minors). In the criminal sphere, the most frequent were restraining orders (6,147), which represented 70.33% of the total protection orders and precautionary measures agreed, and the prohibition of communication (6,103), 70.06% of the total. total.
Likewise, the judicial bodies issued 5,095 civil precautionary measures, whose purpose is the protection of women and minors while the criminal process is resolved. The most frequent were those related to the provision of food (1,535), which represented 20.29% of the total civil measures adopted, and those related to the allocation of housing (1,164), 15.77% of the total. In both cases, the percentages decreased slightly compared to 2023.
During the second quarter of this year, 1,076 civil measures were also agreed to suspend the visitation regime and 588 civil measures consisting of the suspension of guard and custody, figures that represent 14.08% and 7.96% of the total. civil measures agreed upon in the period analyzed, respectively. Likewise, 24 specific measures for the protection of minors were agreed upon to avoid danger or harm and, in 145 cases, parental rights were suspended.
The total number of sentences handed down in the quarter was 16,962, 10.19% more than in the second quarter of 2023. Of them, 13,615 (80.27%) were convictions and 3,347 (19.73%), acquittal
For their part, between April and June of this year the juvenile courts prosecuted crimes of violence against women to 95 minors (a year ago 87 minors were tried by these bodies). Measures were imposed in 90 cases, of which 72 related to Spanish minors. In the other five procedures, no measures were imposed.
