In two free practice sessions characterized by constant changes in the weather, theAston Martin he collected anything but unsatisfactory results at the end of Friday, which kicked off the weekend valid for the Belgian Grand Prix. After a PL1 started with Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll took to the track with the intermediate tires, both drivers then set timed times first with the averages, and then moved on to the soft in the final minutes, with the German who finished the morning with an excellent 7th place.
With the return of bad weather between the first and second sessions, both the German and the Canadian were forced to opt for the intermediates again at the beginning of the afternoon activities. As the track dried out with the passing of the minutes, both Vettel and Stroll encountered difficulties in carrying out tests with the soft and hard compounds, thanks to the double interruption caused by the accidents of Charles Leclerc first and Max Verstappen then. At the end of PL2, the best time at Aston Martin was signed by the Canadian, 6th at the end of the day.
The latter commented on the results obtained together with the work done by the team during the first part of the weekend: “We followed our schedule – Stroll said – to complete a good number of laps, and I felt comfortable with the car. It was a good start for us, but the weather has shown how unpredictable it can be on both Saturdays and Sundays. However, the weather makes everything exciting for us drivers. I can’t wait to get back into the cockpit tomorrow to put today’s work into practice ”.
An opinion, that of the Canadian, very similar to that expressed by teammate Sebastian Vettel, also unable to make predictions due to the weather uncertainty: “It was not easy to complete enough laps – commented the German – due to the conditions and the two red flags in the afternoon, but we were still able to collect important data. I think I can still give a lot, as well as the car, and we know what we’re going to do over the course of the night to be ready for qualifying. With such a variable time it will be it is essential to interpret the conditions and fit suitable tires. Rain can always upset the grill – concluded the three-time winner of the Belgian GP – therefore we will try to capitalize on every opportunity that will arise during this weekend ”.
