The final of Q2 gave quite a few emotions in qualifying for the Austrian GP. The most controversial moment was certainly the near incident between Sebastian Vettel is Fernando Alonso. The German Aston Martin driver was launching into the last corner before the finish line and did not notice – probably not being warned by radio – of the arrival of Alonso’s Alpine. The Spaniard was on his fastest lap and was trying to gain access to Q3, but he found himself in front of his old rival’s car in full line and over 260 km / h.
Alonso, understandably, got furious, opening up angrily over the radio. Vettel, aware of the mistake made, immediately tried to to apologize with the pilot from Oviedo. His sweeping gestures, from the car, however, were obviously not enough to make him avoid a disciplinary sanction. There are three penalty positions on the starting grid that the German will have to serve tomorrow in the race. It is not the first time that the four-time world champion has been penalized on the Styrian circuit in qualifying for an obstruction against another driver. The same in fact happened in 2018, when Vettel was in force at Ferrari. In that case the Heppenheim native thwarted Carlos Sainz, at the time in Renault.
