Seb’s show today
We are counting the hours in Imola waiting for the start of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with the highly anticipated challenge that will pit Max Verstappen – author of a film-record pole position yesterday – against the two McLarens and the two Ferraris. But there won’t only be the current protagonists of the Circus eagerly watching the clock.
At 1.40pmabout an hour and twenty minutes before the traffic lights go out, is in fact expected Sebastian Vettel’s performance at the wheel of the McLaren MP4/8 of 1993the last one driven in his career by Ayrton Senna before his move to Williams. The Brazilian champion won five races with that single-seater, finishing second in the championship behind Alain Prost’s unmatchable Williams. However, it was in Imola that he was forced to withdraw due to a technical problem.
Homage to Senna 30 years after his death
The four-time German world champion made it clear on his Instagram profile that he can’t wait to get on the track, publishing a photo of himself next to the car with an emblematic comment: “Tomorrow [oggi, n.d.r.] we have an appointment“. But actually already on Saturday Vettel tested the asphalt with the ‘Magic’ carcarrying out some test laps in view of today’s actual performance.
Among the first to compliment Vettel was Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, linked by a good friendship with the former Red Bull and Ferrari star. This afternoon therefore, just before 2pm, eyes are already focused on the asphalt strip of the Santerno: Seb’s tribute to Senna, 30 years after his death and after the moving memory organized on Thursday, deserves to be appreciated.
