“It’s fast, it will do well”. Like this Max Verstappen declared that he has no doubts about the results that his father Jos will obtain at the end of November in Jack’s International Drenthe Rally at Assen in the Netherlands. The 1972 class, who boasts two podiums in F1 in 1994 at the wheel of Benetton in Hungary and Belgium, is in fact close to returning to racing after a long break. In addition to the Assen Rally, Jos Verstappen plans to participate in the Dubai 24 in January at the wheel of a Porsche 992 GT3 (prepared by the GP Elite team) which will be shared together with Thierry Vermeulen – son of Max’s manager, Raymond – and others two pilots. For Jos keeping fit is very important in view of a romantic scenario that could see the Verstappen crew mates in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“It won’t be easy to get used to having someone in the cockpit giving you instructions – explained the leader of the F1 championship about Jos’s debut in the Rally as reported by the Autosport newspaper – I’m curious to see how he will fare, keep sending me videos of the tests he is taking. I believe that rallies are in his strings. If we talk about one Le Mans together? Surely. The Hypercar class is taking its first steps, I think we have to wait a few more years for it to stabilize. In a few years I think I will eventually be able to plan a participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For sure in the future I will want to take part in this event and it would be great to do it together with my dad ”.
Jos Verstappen has already participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice in 2008 with a Porsche RS Spyder in the LMP2 class and in 2009 with the Aston Martin in the LMP1 class. The most successful edition was undoubtedly that of 2008, when Jos Verstappen together with Peter van Merksteijn and Jeroen Bleekemolen finished in tenth position in the general classification winning the LMP2 class.
