Dutch Formula One driver Max Verstappen has taken pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix, but will start from 15th as a penalty for exceeding the number of times allowed to change the power unit.
World champion Verstappen set the fastest lap of one minute 43.665 seconds on the 7.004 km Spar-Francorchamps track.
Verstappen outperformed Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who will start on pole position, by 0.632 seconds, followed by Sergio Perez in Red Bull’s second place.
Former world champions Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton will start from the second row, with Alonso finishing sixth and Hamilton seventh.
Verstappen starts the race from 15th, followed by his main rival Charles Leclerc in Ferrari in 16th. Verstappen won the last race in Hungary, although he started from 10th.
Verstappen leads the world championship standings by 80 points, with nine races remaining in the season.
