At Silverstone Max Verstappen he was perhaps the favorite driver to take pole position, but once again this year on Saturday the Red Bull standard bearer had to surrender to Ferrari’s supremacy. This time, however, it was not the ‘usual’ Charles Leclerc who made fun of him in his last attempt in Q3, but Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard of the red, on the contrary, benefited from a mistake by Leclerc that caused a yellow flag, thus complicating the life of the reigning world champion as well. Having obtained a placement in the front row, however, still satisfied Verstappen. Speaking at the end of the day, in fact, the Hasselt native also has ironic about the spin committed at the opening of Q3, when he was much faster than all the other drivers on the track.
“It was a good qualifying, I felt comfortable on the track – explained the World Cup leader – obviously the track was very slippery: my spin in Q3 was a new tire warming technique – he joked – but overall I think we did a good job. We have a great car. Q3 is sometimes a bit of a lottery – continued Verstappen – especially in the wet. I couldn’t improve on my last lap because there was a yellow flag and I think this cost me pole position today “.
In race optics the orange driver’s expectation is the same: a four-way challenge between Ferrari and Red Bull. “The battle for the top positions is very close and the Ferraris are very strong – concluded Verstappen – tomorrow will be a tough challenge, but we hope to be able to finish ahead of them. The car is good in both wet and dry conditions, so if the car works well in the race tomorrow we should have a good chance of winning.“.
