Red Bull driver, world champion for the last three years, and leader of the overall standings, Dutchman Max Verstappen, won the speed race, within the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round out of 24 in the Formula 1 World Championship, at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens. Florida.
Hours after the speed race, Verstappen imposed his advantage in the official tests and took first place at the start on Sunday.
In the speed race, Verstappen, seeking his third successive victory in Miami, outperformed Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc from Monaco and his Mexican Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.
Australian Racing Bulls driver Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth in front of Ferrari’s second driver, Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. and his compatriot Oscar Piastri (McLaren).
The race witnessed a collision at the first turn, which led to the withdrawal of Briton Lando Norris (McLaren) and Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin).
Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) was also affected by the accident, who was able to continue but finished in penultimate place.
German Hulkenberg (Haas) took full advantage of this accident and finished seventh, while Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls) got the final point by finishing eighth.
The Japanese, who was overtaken by Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) on the last lap, benefited from a penalty imposed on the seven-time world champion for speeding in the pit area to retain this valuable position.
Verstappen said, “I think my engine was not good at the beginning, so I had to speed it up a little, and fortunately things went well in the first corner.”
“Then we had the safety car to calm things down a little bit after that. We could have increased the gap a little bit steadily, but it wasn’t quite perfect, so we still have some work to do, and we can still improve the car a little bit, so hopefully we can do that.” “Later in qualifying, especially Sunday in the race.”
In the official tests, Verstappen took first place for the seventh time in a row, but for the first time in Miami.
He led Ferrari drivers Leclerc and Sainz Jr., while Red Bull driver Perez II came fourth.
British Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished seventh and eighth.
