Max Verstappen approached the weekend in Montreal with serenity. A serenity dictated by his position in the drivers’ standings – a solid first place with 34 points ahead of Charles Leclerc -, by the difficulties of Ferrari (which has just announced the breakdown of the second power unit of the Monegasque, who will almost certainly go into penalties in the course of the season) and also by the so-called ‘noise of the enemies’. In the specific case, the protests of Mercedes regarding the porpoisingwhich first resulted in an investigation and then a technical directive by the FIA, with the aim of studying effective measures to counteract high-speed rebounds.
Super Max, in the press conference in Montreal, reiterated his firm ‘no’ to this intervention by the Federation: “For me it is indifferent to understand whether there will be pros or cons, but I disagree on the changes underway. If we talked to an engineer we would understand that raising the machine would solve the problems, therefore I think it is not at all correct to intervene now just because some teams can’t handle propoising. This will make things more complicated and it will also be difficult to discipline“. As for the track, the world champion added: “I love coming here, Montreal is a beautiful city and has a unique track, including curves, chicanes and curbs. I am thrilled to be back here and hope to have a good weekend. We have had some good races so far, but the season is long and so many things can happen. We have seen how in the last GPs there have been many reversals and more can happen. We need to improve on the flying lap, but the race pace is very good. However, on some tracks it is difficult to overtake, so starting from the front would make our life easier. The cars are stiffer and therefore it will be difficult to go over the curbs, I can’t wait to understand how the new cars behave here“.
