He National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) of Venezuela denounced this Thursday that the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration Service (Seniat, Treasury) ordered the closure for eight months of the newspaper Diario La Voz, for supposedly not having the “tax billboard” updated.
According to the criteria of
“Seniat ordered the closure of La Voz newspaper. A commission appeared at the warehouses where the newspaper is printed and closed the facilities“said the SNTP in a publication on X.
He explained that, initially, the tax institution ordered the closure until Monday, October 7, but that this Thursday the tax officials returned to the media headquarters to extend the measure for eight months, until May of next year.

“With the closure of La Voz newspaper, in addition to violating the rights to freedom of expression and access to information, 50 direct workers are left without employment,” he added.
The SNTP maintained that the The Voice Newspaperfounded 58 years ago, is one of “the few prints left in Venezuela”which circulated in paper from Monday to Saturday, in the 21 municipalities of the Miranda state (north), near Caracas.
“We reject indirect censorship against media and journalists,” he added.
On June 26, The National College of Journalists (CNP) denounced that a total of 405 media outlets have closed in Venezuela in the last two decadesas part – he maintained – of a “state policy” against “freedom of expression and the exercise of journalism.”
