Vatican trial, the Pope called to testify. But it is yellow
The process for it Vatican scandal continues more and more with difficulty. But now it is bound to get even more complicated after the decision of the lawyers from to hear Pope Francis as a witness. Two legal defenders in the process for the management of the funds of the Holy See, – reads the Repubblica – representing the Vatican official Fabrizio Tirabassi, asked the Tribunal to consider whether to hear the Pope about what he knew of negotiation with broker Gianluigi Torzi on the purchase of the Sloane Avenue building in London. The lawyer Panella highlighted that the possibility to hear a Head of State as a witness although it is envisaged in democratic systems, it is not at all foreseen in the code in force in the Vatican.
On the one hand – explains the Messenger – there are the defendants left (from ten to six due to the return of the documents to the Promoter of Justice) who continue to clamor for the nullity of the provisions complaining of conspicuous procedural gaps, video evidence deposited by the Promoter of Justice “decimated”, “bleached”, without the meta-data. On the other hand, however, the Promoter of Justice – a sort of prosecutor – who defended the accusatory system by announcing other lines of investigations (never mentioned previously) for which he deemed it necessary to place several omissions on the evidence filed.
