The high prelate: “The way the Pope has expressed himself in the past can lead to change”
The Church must change its assessment of homosexuality. This was stated by Cardinal Jean Claude Hollerich, president of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union as well as general rapporteur of the Synod of Bishops, in an interview with KNA, in which he was asked to evaluate a campaign in which about 125 employees of the Church Catholic in Germany, including some priests, have declared themselves LGBTQ and on the Church’s teachings on homosexuality. “I believe that the sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer true,” he told Hollerich. “I think it’s time to make a fundamental revision of the doctrine.”
Hollerich, without going into which aspects of Church teaching he deems necessary to review, said: “I also believe that we are thinking about the future in terms of doctrine. The way the Pope has expressed himself in the past can lead to a change in doctrine. “It is recalled that the Pontiff sent messages of appreciation to priests and nuns who serve gay Catholics and said that parents of homosexual children do not they should never condemn them, but the Vatican, with Bergoglio’s approval, also stated that priests cannot bless gay couples.
