A few days after the official presentation of the Ferrarischeduled for Tuesday 14 February, the fans of Red approach the awaited appointment with the awareness of a new team principal like Frederic Vasseur, chosen as Mattia Binotto’s replacement already in mid-December. Throughout this period of time, enthusiasts have had the opportunity to express different opinions on the choice of little horse, ready at the same time to relaunch the challenge to Red Bull after a 2022 full of mistakes mainly of a strategic nature. It was precisely these who put an end to Binotto’s experience in the role of team principal, which has now passed into the hands of the Frenchman, previously engaged in the same position in Renault and, above all, in Alfa Romeo.
Now that the 54-year-old is ready to open a new chapter of his career in Maranello, Vasseur recalled his first contacts with Ferrari, the same ones that later proved to be decisive for his appointment as team principal and General Manager : “The process was crystal clear, although there were some rumors in the press before and during the weekend of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – the transalpine explained to the media – we didn’t discuss before then and we had the first discussion there following week in Abu Dhabi; it was a very, very fast process, and then I had a phone call with Mattia. I also met him during the handover and we had a one-on-one discussion, and mine Thanks goes to Mattia for that, because i appreciated his move to stay and wait for me to discuss with Ferrari“.
In addition, Vasseur also added other aspects already mentioned in the past, and which focus on his work philosophy always kept faithful throughout his career: “My approach to racing is that tomorrow we always have to do a better job than today – he has declared – it means that if you say: ‘Ok, today the team is in good shape’, you must always have the mindset to say: ‘We could improve in this area’. If the question is: ‘When will you start?’, I’ve already started! What I can bring to the team is probably the experience I have after 32 years in the pits and the racing spirit. I hope I can bring this aspect to the team.”
