Deputy Director for Clinical Work, Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after G.N. Gabrichevsky Rospotrebnadzor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Tatyana Ruzhentsova in an interview with Izvestia described variants of skin rash in case of infection with omicron.
The expert said that the rash with COVID-19 is more often associated with the action of the virus, and not with allergic reactions, and in most cases this manifestation is not a reason for discontinuing medications, and on the contrary, it shows the need for more active therapy.
Two types of rash have been identified in people infected with omicron. One variety looks like swelling of the fingers and toes from frostbite and is called “covid fingers”, the second is like prickly heat with severe itching, the doctor said.
“The most troublesome is the second type of rash. It often starts with severe itching of the palms or soles early in the coronavirus infection. The symptom may persist for a long time after recovery. A rash like miliaria or chickenpox, which appears as small, itchy red pimples, can appear on any part of the body, but more often on the elbows, knees and back of the hands and feet, ”the message says.
Also, dermatovenerologist Tatyana Sulima, in an interview with Izvestia, said that people with skin diseases of unknown origin, which had not previously been diagnosed and appeared precisely during the period of omicron disease, turn to her.
“As a rule, these diseases manifest themselves in the form of skin rashes on the back of the hands, on the shins, on the neck and on the abdomen. Sometimes rashes also appear on the back. We carry out diagnostics and, as a rule, this rash is diagnosed as urticaria, ”the doctor said. According to Tatyana Sulima, the immune system suffers due to COVID-19, and this is also reflected on the skin.
Earlier, an immunologist, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov spoke about the risk of developing immunodeficiency after COVID-19.
