The Murcian cyclist conquered this Sunday O Gran Camiño at 41 years old
The Murcian cyclist Alejandro Valverde continues to make history. At 41 years of age, he conquered O Gran Camiño this Sunday, a new four-day cycling event held in Galicia, where he had also won Saturday’s stage.
The fourth and last race of this tour of Galicia, a 15.8-kilometre time trial in Sarriá, went to the Ukrainian Mark Padun (Education First), who already stood out last year by dominating two mountain stages in the Criterium del Dauphiné, when he was running for the Bahrain team. Padun, 25, changed teams at the end of last season.
At the end of the stage, Valverde beat Canadian Michael Woods, tenth in the time trial, in the final general classification by seven seconds.
With this victory, the veteran rider from Murcia brings to 133 the number of his victories since he became a professional in 2002. It may not be the last one before his retirement, announced for November of this year.
