The desire to run and compete in nature is growing. Witness the success of the Valtellina Wine Trail among wineries and excellent flavors
The success of the eighth edition of Valtellina Wine Trail (www.valtellinawinetrail.com) held at the end of November made things clear: the desire to run in nature it grows more and more.
In fact, 2,800 competitors competed on the routes of 42, 21 and 12 kilometers, drawn up among vineyards and cellars around Sondrio by the world champion of mountain running Marco De Gasperi. Routes not too demanding for trail running standards, but still convincing and characterized by unusual passages inside cellars, which for the occasion opened the doors to runners, and in the presence of the important monuments of this strip of the province of Sondrio little known outside the Valtellina borders. Proof that for athletes a path that is not trivial but, on the contrary, with a well-defined personality, makes the difference when choosing the races to register for.
When sport drives tourism
–
Directly quantifying the economic impact on the territory of such an event is not easy. It is certain that very few of the foreign athletes (30 nations at the start) had already landed in Valtellina and the same goes for many Italians from almost all regions of the country. For all of these the Media Valtellina was a revelation and many have promised to return to deepen their knowledge of the area at 360 ° even regardless of the dispute of the race. Among other things, routes such as the Via dei Terraces or the Valtellina Path they are particularly suitable for running, and even those who can’t stay a day without wearing shoes have something to enjoy ”. De Gasperi himself, in an interview with the monthly Dove, declared that he would like to get off his Bormio to train when the cold and snow prevent it at high altitude. “I particularly love the production area of Inferno, between Montagna in Valtellina and Poggiridenti and which also provides for the passage in front of the mighty Castel Grumello”, declared the champion, then adding: “towards the Upper Valley, it is always exciting the hill of Teglio with the Torre de Li Beli Miri and the adjacent church of Santo Stefano, both from the Middle Ages, which tell of the presence of the Templars in defense of the territory and of Christianity “.
A precious showcase for local companies
–
The choice of Valtellina Wine Trail to favor local companies in the choice of sponsors, strengthens the link between the competition and the places where it takes place. In a province whose productive fabric is full of companies that are friendly to sportsmen – from equipment to food – the game is easy and the showcase is not to be missed. They are aware of this, for example, a Rigamonti, the world leader in the production of Bresaola, title sponsor of the event for several years and as such an actor of an important investment. Thanks to the presence of branched chain amino acids, necessary to “feed” the muscle fibers as well, with its high content of proteins, vitamins and mineral salts, Bresaola della Valtellina Igp is, in fact, considered by nutritionists one of the ideal foods for athletes and is included in the top 5 of the inevitable foods in the diet of athletes. This is also due to its high digestibility, the consistent presence of noble proteins compared to other cold cuts (33% against 24% of turkey and 19% of cooked ham), of essential amino acids and vitamins (B1, B6 and above all B12). The marriage with trail running and the Valtellina Wine Trail, the most important home race, was therefore inevitable. To everyone’s satisfaction.
