Riot Games has announced some major changes coming to Valorantwhich will undergo a clear evolution of its technological base with the transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5which is part of the near future plans for the title in question together with “new gaming experiences” connect.
The announcement was made by the SVP and head of Valorant studios, Anna Donlanwho reported that the team, having “squeezed every possible drop out of Unreal Engine 4,” now has to move to Unreal Engine 5, which presents a significant challenge for developers.
As explained by Donlan, in fact, this transition to the new graphics engine “is not a simple thing, when the game in question is a live service”, however it represents a transition considered “necessary”, at this point, to continue the title in near future.
A foundation for the future, with new developments on the way
However, this evolution will not immediately be reflected in a dramatic change in the appearance of the game, says Donlon: “This upgrade will not be reflected in a significant change in the appearance or performance of Valorant,” he reported, “at least not immediately.” However, this is a fundamental element for lay the foundations for the future.
With the move to Unreal Engine 5, developers will have greater freedom to implement new things: “maybe these developers are working on something I can’t talk about and maybe these developers are thinking about how to expand the Val universe into new playable experiences,” he reported.
Put like this, it seems to refer to new modes or even spin-offs or different gaming experiences but connected to Valorant, which would not be surprising at all, considering what Riot Games has already done with the League of Legends universe, so we are waiting for news about it.
Meanwhile, Valorant has also recently landed on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, after being launched on PC.
