The waiter at Café de Valen stands as the best barista in the contest, one of the oldest in Spain
The XIII edition of the Salzillo Tea and Coffee Barista Contest already has a winner. Valentín Ortega Moreno, from the Café de Valen, a local located on the Murcian avenue of Juan Carlos I, has risen as the best barista of the contest, after facing eleven more applicants.
The Salzillo Tea and Coffee exhibitor hosted this Friday the great event, framed within the Region of Murcia Gastronomic congress, which is held until next Monday in the capital and where the best restaurants in the entire Community meet. The Salzillo stand offers visitors its Café Capital. According to the manager of the firm, José Gomariz, “it is a tribute to the capital of the Region of Murcia. We have taken this coffee to all the fairs as something representative of Murcia ».
Café Capital is made with beans from Central America, South America and with Moka from Ethiopia, explains the manager. “Its most interesting note is that it has a lot of body and is characterized by a flavor that mixes chocolate, caramel and butter, all of it combined with a fine acidity,” says Gómez.
This was the coffee that was served to the participants of the XIII Barista Contest and the ‘Latte Art’ contest, also held in this culinary congress, organized by LA VERDAD.
Valentín Ortega Moreno won the award for Best Barista, while Rubén Rodríguez won the ‘Latte Art’. Rodríguez also won the distinction for Best Espresso and Best Combined, while the award for Best Cappuccino went to Jorge Briones.
