Researchers believe they have found a factor that caused rare blood clots after Astra Zeneca’s coronavirus vaccine, British broadcaster BBC on Thursday.

Research teams in the UK and the US have been able to show a link between a single blood protein and a key substance in the vaccine. This connection triggers a chain reaction in the human defense system, which in rare cases can cause vascular thrombosis.

Already last spring, it was estimated that the adenovirus technology used in the Astra Zeneca vaccine may be the cause of blood clots. At that time, various research groups urgently began to find out the causes of the blockages. Astra Zeneca’s own researchers were also included in this study.

Another clue that the researchers went on to find out was that those who had blood clots had special antibodies in their blood.

A study published in Science Advances shows that the surface of an adenovirus, like a magnet, attracts a certain protein in the blood.

“So we’ve figured out the beginning of the chain of events, but there are still a lot of things to do after that,” said the professor. Alan Parker From the University of Cardiff.
