Yesterday I talked about Conte and Salvini. But I haven’t talked about how Draghi will try to take out both of them. After all, its political mission in times of a pandemic has now become clear.
The M5s will slowly deflate on its own between now and the end of the term. Just wait. We will see Conte’s moves. Of course, criticizing his Minister of the Interior at the time of Count I is not very cool. What matters, however, is the fact that Draghi does not want to annihilate the M5s: a moderate center in a system has always been useful and indeed it cannot be done without considering the current weakness of the PD and even Renzi is now too weak to be able to build that center. So a 10 percent M5s is good for everyone. The so-called spokespersons, the big names, have the place insured for life.
More difficult is to take out Salvini. In short, bring the League below 10 percent. Of course with his men in the government, ready to say yes, without ifs and buts, Salvini has already in fact weakened, but the coup de grace is not enough. It takes something more to completely undermine it.
And here is Draghi’s strategy: to bring vaccination management to a breaking point that Salvini will be forced to accept, willingly or unwillingly. The generalized obligation of the vaccine. In short, after having approved the green pass, Salvini will also have to accept the obligation of vaccination, already extended to different categories but not yet total. The subject on which to blame for the need for this step is already there: the unvaccinated, who is the real internal enemy. After all, the unvaccinated has not yet yielded to the new regime. At the moment it remains the only thorn in the side of the government. And Draghi can only get a victory by force, putting Salvini in front of the aut – aut. Either vaccination obligation for all or new lockdowns for all. And faced with this choice, Salvini can only accept what he says today he will never accept. At that point Salvini will have lost all credibility and Draghi’s mission will be definitively accomplished.
Everyone seems to be reckoning without the host.
I will be wrong, but there are movements taking place in our society that are underestimated by everyone and that do not find political representation. A political vacuum is opening up and we do not know who and how will fill it.
