There is a car company that does not compete in any automotive category but manages to produce the most popular hypercars in the world. We are talking about Pagani which with its latest creation, the Utopia Roadster, offers something unique. That is, “a celebration of the timeless charm of mechanical purity, ranging from the Pagani V12, without hybrid supports, to ultra-modern design elements such as the gearbox and the pedals, in which each mechanism is clearly visible and cared for down to the smallest detail”, they explain to small company from San Cesaro sul Panaro.
Certainly, however, there is no shortage of technological firsts. Starting from the fact that – a unique case in the world – thanks to a hard-top that integrates into the profile of the car, the car has the same weight and torsional rigidity as the closed version. On the scale, in fact, the Utopia Roadster tips the scales at 1,280 kg, a result achieved thanks to a completely redesigned monocoque to optimize rigidity and resistance, without resorting to the heavy reinforcements generally necessary when the roof is removed.
Without forgetting, then, that this is the first car in the world to bring the sensor system of the Pirelli Cyber Tires to a production car which makes the tires “intelligent”, capable of communicating with the car to adapt it to the road surface conditions. In practice, tire sensors send information to the vehicle’s stability control systems, including ABS, ESP and traction control, to ensure maximum performance and the highest safety based on driving conditions.
And then, even if the Paganis – as we were saying – don’t race anywhere, the car is a laboratory of composite materials. Horacio Pagani, in fact, has been incessantly experimenting with the most innovative solutions for his carbon products for almost forty years: the number one creation of the Atelier Pagani, the Zonda, was one of the first road cars to use a carbon fiber monocoque , material at the time mainly reserved for the aerospace sector, Formula 1 and endurance Sports Prototype cars.
In reality, as always, when there is a car involved that leaves the San Cesaro sul Panaro atelier, Horacio Pagani’s touch is always visible. A poetic touch: The design is inspired by the shapes and beauty of Made in Italy. Thus on the Utopia Roadster we find details inspired by the delicate profiling of the headlights and accessories of the Vespas, the style of the Italian Bianchi bicycles of the 1950s and the curves of the Riva motorboats. On the other hand, the romantic lines of Utopia are born precisely from the bond of profound esteem and friendship between Horacio Pagani and Carlo Riva, “an admiration that is born in humanity and is reflected in creativity” as Horacio himself explains who among The other is often inspired by the Renaissance vision of Leonardo da Vinci who saw the maximum expression of human creativity in the integration between Art and Science.
Well, let’s say that if you put so much passion, poetry and culture into a car, then in the end the scent of a masterpiece is strong. We could talk for hours about a Utopia and the love with which it is built. But just one detail makes the point clear. The steering wheel, the very symbol of the car, is constructed in a crazy way: looking at it carefully you discover that the crown, the spokes and the hub are a single piece of light metal. Yes, because to create it, a five-axis milling machine works continuously for 28 hours, starting from a 43 kg block to obtain this extraordinary object weighing approximately 1.6 kg…
