In a very disputed match, the Brazilian men’s goalball team suffered its first loss in the Paralympics in Tokyo (Japan), to the United States, by 8 to 6, at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in the early hours of this Thursday (26) in a match valid by Group A.
The stumbling block in front of the current Paralympic runners-up in the modality came after the triumph of an 11-2 rout over Lithuania, current Paralympic goalball champion.
Brazil started the dispute at a fast pace, and, in the first launch, opened the scoreboard with Romário in penalty kick. Two minutes later the Americans managed to equalize, with Calahan Young. But Brazil got the advantage again, thanks to a goal by Josemarcio, Parazinho.
However, the US closed the first half ahead after goals from Tyler Merren and Josemarcio, against.
But right at the start of the final stage, Brazil took the lead on the scoreboard thanks to two goals from Leomon Moreno. Matt Simpson made everything the same again, but Leomon, in a new penalty, put the Brazilian team in a 5-4 advantage again.
However, the clash was very balanced and the goals of Calahan Young (three times) and Daryl Walker ensured the final victory for the American team over Brazil, who in the end also scored with Josemarcio.
