USA, the Supreme Court (mostly conservative) abolishes the right to abortion
The bomb had been in the air for a while but today it exploded with a bang that will make a lot of noise. In fact, the American Supreme Court has sent the right to abort into the attic. In 1973, the ruling in the Roe v. Wade had made it constitutional for women to terminate the pregnancy. Today’s decision gives the 50 states the power to make their own law on the matter and, at the moment, as many as 26 states would be ready to ban it. The highest court ruled on the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a Mississippi clinic.
With six votes in favor and three against, the Tribunal sided with the country’s anti-abortion organizations. Magistrates Samuel Alito, a member of the more conservative wing of the Supreme Court together with the support of Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and the president of the Supreme Court, who joined, struck a vital right for 36 million women of childbearing age. It is worth remembering that during his tenure Donald Trump had appointed three new conservative judges, and this is the most evident result of those choices.
USA, the right to abortion canceled: a sentence that splits the country
A sentence that splits the country. States that will ban abortion could include: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Some of these will move with “trigger” laws that can be activated almost immediately. For some time now, clinics in non-opposing states had been inundated with patients from states where it would become illegal. New York State has offered to host women who wish to have abortions. But traveling to faraway places to have an abortion is not for everyone. To the price of the intervention it is necessary to add the trips, by plane or car with fuel to the stars and accommodation.
Usa, abortion right canceled: the least safe solution in the abortion pill
Many health professionals are convinced that many women will look for the solution in abortion pills, which are much less safe than surgery. But some states are even banning the internet purchase of such drugs. But that decision and the previous leak also sparked security concerns on the judges by escalating protests in front of the homes of some conservative judges. The leak (Washington website) is still a mystery despite opening an investigation for something unprecedented in over 200 years. But, beyond the vote, the country takes a step backwards by many years in terms of freedom and civil rights for women and men alike.
