Basketball: Strong Wagner brothers lead Orlando to first win in ten games

Thanks to the strong brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner, the Orlando Magic managed to win for the first time in ten games in the North American professional basketball league NBA. In the 116:109 at the Charlotte Hornets, the two Germans scored 45 points together.

In addition to his 19 points, shooting star Franz Wagner contributed six rebounds and seven assists to the success, national player Moritz Wagner scored 26 points and also got four rebounds and one assist. The 14-year-old soccer talent Axel Kei became the youngest team athlete in US history to receive a professional contract. The Ivory Coast-born American signed for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Real Salt Lake on a two-year deal. At 14 years and 15 days, Kei beat Freddy Adu’s previous best by 153 days. Adu joined DC United in January 2004, also in MLS.

“Axel proved last year that he is one of the greatest storm talents in the country,” said general manager Elliot Fall: “In front of goal, he acts extremely calm for his age. Together with his athleticism, he promises to be a goal guarantor in the coming years to be in our league.”

Kei grew up in Brazil where his father played professional soccer. In 2017, at the age of nine, he moved to San Diego with his family. Last October, at the age of 13, he made his debut for the Real Monarchs, a junior team of the MLS club, becoming the youngest player in the history of professional team sports in the USA.

The German ice hockey professional Nico Sturm is still on the playoff course with the Minnesota Wild in the North American NHL. The Wild won against the Anaheim Ducks 7-3 (3-1, 0-0, 4-2) on Friday night (local time). Sturm assisted in Kevin Fiala’s 1-0 lead in the first period, it was the sixth assist of the season for the 26-year-old from Augsburg.

Minnesota decided the game with three goals in the first two minutes of the final period as they temporarily extended their lead to 6-1. Matt Boldy and Mats Zuccarello even scored four seconds apart.

It was the third win in a row for the Wild. They are currently in fourth place in the Central Division and have played fewer games than the competition because of the many games in the NHL that were postponed due to the corona pandemic.
