NFL: Celtics coach Udoka suspended for entire NBA season
The Boston Celtics have suspended head coach Ime Udoka for the entire 2022-23 NBA season for “violating team policy.” His future with the Celtics beyond the season will be decided at a later date, a club statement said on Thursday.
The Celtics did not provide more details about the punishment, which is one of the harshest ever imposed on an NBA head coach. ESPN and The Athletic had previously reported a consensual relationship with a Celtics employee, with whom Udoka violated organization policies.
“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization and my family for letting them down,” said Udoka: “I’m sorry I put the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision.” “Out of respect for everyone involved,” he will not make any further comments.
Udoka had led Boston to the finals series for the first time since 2010 last season. With national player Daniel Theis, who has now moved to the Indiana Pacers, the Celtics lost to the Golden State Warriors (2:4). With the pre-season beginning soon, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla is a likely interim solution, according to ESPN.
NFL: Browns beat Steelers
The Cleveland Browns defeated division rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL to earn their second win of the season. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett had two touchdowns at 29:17 on Thursday evening (local time) and did not miss a pass. Brissett is a stopgap for the Browns, who signed Deshaun Watson to a five-year, $230 million contract. Due to an eleven-game ban from the NFL, Watson can’t play against his former team, the Houston Texans, until November at the earliest. He had been sued by 24 women for sexual abuse.
For the Steelers, it was the second loss in three games of the season in the first season after the retirement of NFL veteran Ben Roehtlisberger. His replacement as quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky, made 20 of his 32 passes to a teammate and scored a touchdown himself.
